City Declares July 4th to be celebrated in September

Saturday, October 30, 2010 is designated as “Meet and Treat Night” in the City of Edmond. Both children and adults are encouraged to cooperate in limiting the time of activities to the afternoon and early evening hours.

It just cracks me up that the city thinks it can dictate when Halloween is celebrated. I’m told that the official reason to try to get people to trick-or-treat on Saturday is because Sunday is a school night. The Bogosity meter is pegged for that one. Can’t remember them ever trying to move it when it was on a Thursday. The real reason is the churches hate Halloween and having it on Sunday is a real peeve of theirs. In Oklahoma at any particular intersection you can count on their being a gas station, a bank, a pharmacy, and a church. I’m a Christian, but never understood the fuddy duddies on the Halloween thing. Little kids dressing up and having fun isn’t worshiping the dark lord. Worshiping the dark lord is worshiping the dark lord.

A friend of ours owns Othello’s in downtown Edmond, so I expect we will go there Saturday in our costumes for “Trick or Treat in the Street”. Sunday we’ll dress up again and go out, with much of our neighborhood I expect, for a second round on Halloween.

Would love to come, but will be spending all weekend becoming an Oklahoma certified handgun instructor. Thank you for the invitation though.
